Admissions
Ontario Students
Some courses at Matrix Academy require prerequisite credits. In order to enroll in one of these courses, Ontario students must provide proof that they have the prerequisite credit(s). To do so, they must send their report card or Ontario Student Transcript (OST) to our school. If a student is taking individual courses at Matrix Academy, as soon as they are enrolled, we will notify their main school. We will also send their midterm and final report cards to the main school directly.
Out-of-Province Students
Out-of-province Canadian students who would like to take individual courses at Matrix Academy may go through a course waiver process. If they have completed similar prerequisite courses, they must submit their report card(s) and transcripts for evaluation purposes. However, if out-of-province students are planning to earn an OSSD at Matrix Academy, they will be required to go through a PLAR process. PLAR stands for “Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition.” They must also submit their report cards or transcripts for evaluation purposes. Once our school has reviewed their student records we will specify which courses the out-of-province student is eligible to take.
Unlike Quebec schools, we are offering a Grade 12 program, eliminating the stress of attending English CEGEPs. With the OSSD, students bypass the CEGEP system and directly qualify for university or college undergraduate programs, streamlining their academic trajectory. Like other pupils, Quebec students will need to undergo the PLAR process, while providing their transcripts and documentation from former educational institutions.
Homeschooled Students
Homeschooled students must provide proof of having covered topics required by the Ontario curriculum for each course they’ve taken. They must also show us the materials they have used for each course and any report cards or achievement certificates issued by their parents/guardians. Furthermore, homeschooled students who are planning to take grade 11-12 courses at Matrix Academy will be required to complete admission tests in English, math and science. This will help us evaluate their eligibility to take courses at our school.
International Students
At Matrix Academy, students who are not Canadian citizens or permanent residents are regarded as international students. In order to enroll in courses at our school, students must demonstrate that they have covered subject topics required by the Ontario curriculum for each course. For courses with prerequisites, students are required to submit their report card(s) and/or student records showing all the courses taken in their home country.
Furthermore, international students are required to take admission tests and/or provide ESL proficiency test scores. For successful studies at Matrix Academy, students usually must have achieved at least the B2 level on the Cambridge Test; a level 6 on the IELTS; or a 69-70 on the TOEFL.
University placement services & career guidance
Matrix Academy offers all students post-secondary application services for additional fees. As part of this special service, we work with career guidance advisors who can assist students with their choice of college or university. From time to time, we also organize workshops with Canadian college and university representatives who are always happy to assist students.
In addition, we help our students create and update their Ontario Universities’ Application Center (OUAC) and Ontario College Application Service (OCAS) accounts, and we upload students’ grades to the OUAC/OCAS system during specified grade collection periods. We also help our international students submit required documents to Canadian universities or colleges of their choice that do not require OUAC/OCAS uploads. Furthermore, we offer some help to those students who wish to apply to European universities. Whether a student is applying to an institution in Ontario, out-of-province, or in another country, we will communicate with the school to facilitate the application process.
Matrix Academy graduates have been admitted to prestigious universities and colleges all over the world. Some of the esteemed institutions where our students have been accepted include:
McGill University
The University of Manchester
Modul University Vienna
The University of British Columbia
York University
Carleton University
Georgetown University
Notable alumni
Marta M. was one of our top students at Matrix Academy. She got inspired to study political science and pursue a career as a politician after taking an international business course at our school. In fact, she had a lot of interest in our business classes— especially in Business Leadership and Current Economic Issues. According to Marta, these are essential subjects needed for pursuing her political career.
While still in high school, Marta had already made great strides toward achieving her goals. In her native country, Ukraine, she was the deputy of the Kharkiv Youth City Council. Since she is passionate about international relations and has expressed interest in eventually becoming a diplomat, she joined the committee on international cooperation. And as the project manager at the NGO “Public Diplomacy Platform,” she was given the opportunity to represent Ukraine internationally. Even more impressive, she had the honorable goal of fostering the cooperation of youth on an international level. We are very proud of Marta and her accomplishments!
With an ambitious drive to achieve success, in the summer of 2022, Marta was admitted to a Yale Young Global Scholars to political science program where she received a full scholarship. Additionally, she was given full scholarships to attend both UBC and Georgetown University, DC, USA. After careful consideration, she decided to pursue a bachelor’s degree at Georgetown University
Global Prospectives
Matrix Academy works closely with Global Affairs Canada (GAC), which promotes Canadian trade and education abroad at the federal level. Thanks to GAC, we were privileged and honored to have Mr. Alan Hamson (Canadian Ambassador to Asia Minor and Kazakhstan) attend our Kazakhstani students’ graduation ceremony in 2023. Our collaboration with GAC helps us bring together students from diverse backgrounds, creating a rich, multicultural learning environment
