About King’s-Edgehill School
An International Baccalaureate School since 1979, we equip our students for university life around the globe, not only by developing academic rigour, but also by inspiring athletic and artistic excellence, strength of character and community leadership in a manner by which students know they are participating in “personal” and not just “private” education.Founded in 1788, Kings College School was the first independent school in both Canada and the British Commonwealth outside of Great Britain. Today, we honour the remarkable traditions of excellence, achievement and leadership that have long defined our School.
In 1886 horses pulled milk wagons up the long College Road, boys ran from the wooden schoolhouse up to the new chapel for service, and the Cadet corps had just begun. By the time a hand had scratched 1988 in the library’s stone; cars parked beside new classrooms, several generations of students had fought in two World Wars, and the School was getting ready to celebrate its bicentennial.

University placement services & career guidance
At KES, it is our goal to help prepare our students for life after high school. While the vast majority of our graduates go on to university, some choose another form of higher learning, such as an art school, culinary school, or community college. The Guidance Department’s mission is to help each student find the post-secondary institution that is the right fit for them. Each student’s journey will be a personal one, but we believe that we can make the process easier through good preparation. Preparing students for life after KES starts in the Junior School where students complete online career assessments such as Career Cruising, and attend career information nights. The intensity of preparation increases in the Senior School when students develop action plans and begin their research into different programs and schools.
Each student is assigned an academic advisor to aid them in this process. They are also encouraged to visit the Guidance Centre to research the myriad of post-secondary options available to them. Students planning to apply to schools in the USA will also begin preparing for the SAT. KES is a SAT testing site, and we offer the SATs three times per year. In their final year, students will attend post-secondary preparatory groups throughout the first term which will guide them through the process of deciding the right school and program for them, as well as aiding them through the application and scholarship process. It will also give students an opportunity to learn about and discuss various topics related to post-secondary schools. Students will also meet individually with the director of school counselling to discuss any questions or concerns they may have as well as to develop and track their post-secondary goals.
International Students
While we annually attract international students from English-speaking countries such as the United States and the Caribbean, many international students who study at King’s-Edgehill School benefit from our extensive English Language Learning (ELL) Program.
Our ELL Coordinator and other ELL faculty members are dedicated and experienced teachers who are committed to supporting our international students as they master English and prepare for university. International students requiring ELL support benefit from regular ELL classes as a part of their daily class schedule during the entire academic year and extensive help and support with important test opportunities such as the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) preparation.
