If you are planning on moving abroad for higher education or to search for employment, the IELTS is definitely something you will want to prepare for. It will make finding a job or starting at a new university abroad much easier. With IELTS, you will no doubt have a much better grasp of the most globally spoken language in the world, making your transition into academia much smoother and professionally, you will be much more employable.

IELTS stands for the International English Language Testing System. It is an English language proficiency exam which is internationally recognized in higher education and global migration.

The test is designed to assess the English language ability of test takers who need to study or work where English is the main language of communication. It conforms to the highest international standards of language assessment and is recognized by schools, universities, global employers, immigration authorities and professional institutions.

The IELTS exam is designed to directly reflect how you will be able to use English either in academics, professional life, personal life or life abroad.

The exam is divided into four sections: reading, writing, listening and speaking. During the listening portion of the exam, you will be listening to recordings of each scenario and answering questions based on what you hear. The reading section consists of 40 questions based on a few selected readings. You will have an hour to complete this section. The writing portion also takes an hour to complete. What you will have to write will be dependent on whether you are taking the IELTS for academics or employability. The final section is the speaking section in which you will be having a one to one conversation with the examiner. This usually takes about 10 to 15 minutes.
