What James Cameron School says..
Our Education Professionals deliver an adapted format of the BC Academic Curriculum that suits the learning needs of students with Dyslexia and other learning disabilities.
Your child will be set up to work one to one with their Orton-Gillingham Tutor in a relaxed environment that allows them to work at their own pace.
Results have shown how quickly our students experience success and increased confidence with differentiated instruction that focuses upon their strengths.
It is our use of the right learning tools and small class sizes that set your child up for success. It is helping them see they are not alone. It is helping them learn to celebrate their unique differences by supporting them right where they are. It is about moving them forward at their own pace and helping them gain traction so they are emotionally and academically ready for high school.
It is the smiles and the light bulb moments of ‘I get it’ that drives the teachers and support staff at James Cameron to consistently deliver the very best customized individual education plans available to your children.

Welcome to James Cameron School and to our website. James Cameron is a very special school built on a solid foundation with a purpose to help students who struggle with reading, writing and spelling reach their true potentials. Our students are intelligent, creative and capable; however, they come to us lacking the academic skills necessary to be successful in a general education class. Because their learning disabilities have been misunderstood, many students have heightened anxiety from school based trauma and arrive doubting their abilities to succeed in school.
At JCS we work together to build student confidence, changing “I can’t…” into “I CAN!”
For more than 30 years, James Cameron School has taken great pride in delivering quality education to elementary children who have been diagnosed with learning disabilities, such as dyslexia. This is done by following the Ministry of Education curriculum, but taught with adaptations and accommodations to maximize student success. We recognize that all students are diverse in the ways in which and the rate at which they learn—emotionally, physically, and intellectually.
If you are interested in learning more about our school, please contact us and book a private appointment to talk with me, take a tour, and see if our school is a good fit for your child. We enroll new students year-round, class space permitting. I invite you to come for a visit. I am sure that you will leave feeling warmed by what you observe. Please don’t wait to get your child the expertise he or she may need to be successful!
We are a small independent school, which allows our staff to know and to care for each individual student. We have a disciplined focus on costs, allowing us to offer lower tuition costs over any other private LD school in the Lower Mainland. Extra support for reading, spelling and writing is provided in daily one-to-one diagnostic-prescriptive Orton-Gillingham tutoring sessions, in which students’ individual language needs are addressed. In small classes, students’ unique learning styles are addressed in all areas of the curriculum. Students come to understand they have tremendous potential and can succeed through their efforts. We are conveniently located in Maple Ridge just minutes from the Golden Ears and Pitt River Bridges. Our students come from all over the Lower Mainland and the Fraser Valley.
As parents and guardians, it is important to know you are not alone in your journey. We have dedicated family support to educate, nurture, and care for your children as they develop the tools they need to reach their potential. We are here to help you with Admission right through Graduation and beyond. Our resources include our Parents Support Group, carpooling partners, workshops for parents and transition support for students going into Grade 8 at a new school.
Many of our alumni keep in touch, sharing their successes and acknowledging the difference made by attending JCS.
As we are a registered charity, donations are always greatly welcomed.
It is my privilege and honour to be the new Principal of James Cameron School. I welcome you and your child to experience our learning community!
