Leading the Way

On the first day of school in 1867, our founders opened their doors with the intention of educating girls and teaching them how to be leaders. It was a new idea in its day – we believed women were equals at a time when the concept was radical. There were 31 students enrolled that first year. There are over 900 this year – and each have their own ideas, their own voice and an equal place at BSS to carve out their own path.

Our approach is unique among schools in Toronto. We focus entirely on boys during their formative years from JK to Grade 8 – a period when a boy’s life is filled with energy, curiosity and exploration. We inspire our students by using the most successful techniques and approaches for teaching boys.

We treat every one of them as an individual, exposing them to a curriculum that is specifically catered to boys’ learning during the key foundational years.

Our exceptional teachers are actively involved throughout the journey, providing support and encouragement. Parents are part of a warm and open school community that is made up of current and Alumni families, Old Boys, faculty/staff, friends, donors, volunteers and members of our Board.

Our Open House takes place October 23, 2019 from 9AM-12PM.

Joining us at this event is an important part of the Admissions process. Our Open House offers prospective families an informative and informal opportunity to tour the school accompanied by helpful Grade 7 ambassadors. Expect a warm welcome at the door from one of our many parent volunteers.

Visitors witness wonderful SHS boy energy, meet our superior faculty and visit with Principal Rick Parsons. Come chat with the Admissions team and learn more about Sterling Learning and see Sterling Character and Sterling Community in action.

About PCA

Offering a strong academic program, PCA follows the academic standards set by the Ministry of Education for Ontario and awards the Ontario Secondary School Diploma to its graduates. Historically PCA student performance exceeds provincial and national norms in all areas, so it is clear that educational strength is not diminished through the emphasizing of spiritual values.

Recognizing the central importance of spiritual formation in the lives of its students, PCA offers a well-rounded curriculum, presented from a Biblical worldview. PCA understands that it cannot do the job alone. The home provides the primary base for the spiritual orientation and nurturing of the child. Ideally, the school serves to carry out the wishes of the parents in how it approaches the duty of spiritual instruction and guidance. It is expected that, just as in academics, the parents are to be vitally engaged in the spiritual progress of the child.

Also, as far as it is possible, PCA seeks to partner with the child’s church so that it can complement the church’s influence. All in all, there ought to be a harmony and a consistent message delivered to the student from a three-stranded partnership — the home, the church and the school.

More..

The York School

Our 700+ students from JK to Grade 12 are, in many ways, perfect examples of both the world beyond our walls and the International Baccalaureate programme inside. They are diverse and contemporary like the city that makes our midtown location so unique. They are resilient and expansive like the Canadian landscape they explore through our extensive outdoor education offerings. And they are complex and multi-faceted like the nations they represent, the global community they are preparing to join, and the renowned universities they will attend.

For over 50 years, this community has worked together to build a distinctive learning environment to realize our mission. In this setting, students thrive, teachers inspire and parents advance the cause. From the strategic thinking of our current Board members to the inquiring questions of our youngest students, our tradition of academic excellence and global understanding continues. Graduates of The York School are knowledgeable and caring citizens of the world.

Join us at our annual Middle & Senior School Open House. This is a great opportunity for you to gain insights into what The York School is like from the perspective of a student in the Middle/Senior School, while meeting members of The York School community that include our vibrant faculty, engaged staff, committed parents, and bright students from over 25 countries around the globe.

Our Open House will be packed with exciting opportunities to engage with the multi-facets of The York School. This is your opportunity to get back in the classroom, and experience The York School.

Our Mission

To develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who are engaged citizens of the world.

Our mission is distinct among independent schools because it focuses on the strengths of our graduates, rather than the features of our school.

The capacity for inquiry arises from curiosity, an inclination toward action and an ability to adapt.

To be knowledgeable is to transform diverse ideas and experiences into integrated understanding.

Caring flows from empathy, compassion and a genuine appreciation for community.

And engaged citizens feel a sense of responsibility for personal, social and global progress.

Linbrook School

The research is clear; create a culture that celebrates and understands boys and the positive outcomes are endless. Boys enjoy and thrive on engaging and positive relationships, meaningful and exciting academic lessons, the opportunity for movement, to be part of a team, and to wake up each morning eager and energized by the upcoming school day. Further to the research, however, is the intangible quality an all boys’ school can possess to make a boy feel cared for and challenged to reach his full potential.

Our Open Houses are wonderful opportunities for families to meet our staff and faculty.

Parents and children who join us will be given a tour of the school and an opportunity to speak with the teachers.  Open House dates are indicated on the website.

Parents may also call the school to speak with our Office Administrator about upcoming dates and/or to schedule a tour during the regular school day.

Linbrook Philosophy

At Linbrook, our goal is to help our boys reach their potential.

We keep our school population at 180 because it enables the staff to know every student in the school. In addition, we have a maximum class size of 18 students.

We know boys have different learning styles, and we respect their unique personalities. Research shows that boys learn differently and socialize in their own distinct ways. We also know through research that boys thrive in an all-boys’ learning environment.

Our program offers your son or grandson a diverse learning experience so he can explore his interests and discover his talents within academics, the arts and athletics. Though our curriculum is challenging, boys find it engaging and fun because it is taught in the way they learn best. At Linbrook, we are always preparing our boys for what is ahead and building their confidence every step of the way.

Pickering College is an independent day and boarding school for boys and girls from Junior Kindergarten to Grade 12. Founded in 1842 as a Quaker school, and established in our current Newmarket location in 1909, the mission of Pickering College is to instill in each individual the ability and responsibility to make the world greater, better and more beautiful than they discovered it. Our vision is to develop innovative, courageous and compassionate global citizens who take action, true to Quaker values.

We look forward to welcoming you to our school!

As part of our Quaker values we celebrate diversity in all aspects of the school. This is reflected both in our Global Leadership Program and our commitment to a co-educational environment. Our unique approach includes educating and developing the ‘whole child’ through a focus on academic excellence, co-curricular distinction, character and leadership development. We pride ourselves in providing an individualized approach to learning.
