The Vice Principal of Senior School is an accomplished educator who effectively collaborates with others to further the Vision, Mission, Values and strategic goals of St. John’s-Ravenscourt School. Working alongside the Principal of Senior School, the Vice Principal facilitates communication and support structures that ensure well-being for all students, particularly for students in need of academic monitoring. The Vice Principal engenders partnerships with students, parents, faculty and community liaisons to provide a wide network of opportunity and an individualized experience for each student.

The Vice Principal of Senior School is an aspiring school leader who is keen to develop their skills and abilities in pursuit of progressive leadership roles.

The Vice Principal of Senior School reports to the Principal of Senior School and works in collaboration with other Vice Principals, Directors and administrators.

The successful candidate will be knowledgeable in teaching strategies that celebrate the unique strengths, learning needs, and cultural identities of each child in the classroom. The successful candidate will be a caring and inclusive educator who can enact the School’s character values: respect, empathy, courage, and integrity.
 
The candidate will demonstrate skills in the areas of leadership, collaboration, and communication. The candidate must hold a valid Manitoba Teaching Certificate or be eligible to obtain one.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS

The Vice Principal of Senior School is responsible for assisting with academic, administrative and student welfare components of operations in their division.

The Vice Principal of Senior School is responsible for assisting with academic, administrative and student welfare components of operations in their division.

Academic Responsibilities:

  • Leads by example in researching and engaging with innovative learning practices, embracing change as a regular part of education, and supporting classroom learning and pedagogical practices.
  • Works with Heads of Department to support curriculum, instruction and assessment practices aligned with whole-school academic objectives.
  • Promotes collaboration among colleagues and facilitates opportunities for sharing effective practices.

Administrative Responsibilities:

  • Assists the Principal with management relating to assigning duties, scheduling events, planning for and leading staff meetings, report card generation and publication, planning for parent-teacher conferences, admissions interviews and other responsibilities as needed.
  • Seeks and maintains an understanding of school policies and procedures, provincial education law and provincial responsibilities for educational administrators.

Student Welfare Responsibilities:

  • Identifies and tracks, then consults, develops and communicates plans of support for students who are not meeting, or are at risk of not meeting, the school policy for academic continuance.
  • Promotes positive behavioural expectations and intervenes, when necessary, to work in partnership with faculty, students and families to plan for and support students in implementing strategies for behavioural improvement and successful participation in the school environment.
  • Provides leadership and oversight of student conduct and has responsibility for engaging students in understanding and making meaning of the student code of conduct, including their rights and responsibilities as members of our school community.
  • Collaborates with Student Services team members in planning and communicating for holistic student care when both clinical and behavioural considerations are present.
  • Monitors attendance, ensures compliance with provincial procedures, identifies patterns and supports students and families in addressing issues of lateness, school avoidance and truancy.
  • Assists the Principal in the case management and documentation of progressive discipline in cases of misconduct.
Specific asks may include and are not limited to a teaching or co-curricular assignment, student orientation, managing locker assignment, uniform compliance, student ambassador training and assisting with Graduation, Honours Day and other special events.

  • Responsibilities and tasks are assigned by the Principal.

JOB REQUIREMENTS
Education/Certification/Experience

  • Bachelor of Education
  • Post-baccalaureate diploma, CAIS LI Diploma or graduate degree (completed or in progress)
  • Minimum of five years classroom teaching experience
  • Experience working with adult learners

Knowledge:
Understanding of innovative and effective practices in education, pastoral care in a learning environment and behavioural management strategies for youth, or the ability to develop an understanding.

RESPONSIBILITY
Operations:

  • Position is responsible for maintaining confidential information and documentation
  • Position is responsible for organizational tasks (scheduling, project assignment)

  • Position may be required to maintain and report on budgets

  • Concentration necessary to ensure accuracy is maintained with multiple priorities
  • Immovability of scheduled meetings and events may create tension
  • Independently perform work
  • Frequent responses to inquiries

Physical Effort:

  • Use of computer monitor may result in visual and mental fatigue
  • Moving frequently and circulating throughout campus

Working Conditions:

  • Majority of work is performed in a typical school environment
  • Flexibility is required to attend events outside of regularly scheduled office hours and to travel overnight while supervising students
