Job description:
As a member of the CFIS Senior Leadership Team, CFIS’s Elementary Principal is responsible for the day-to-day organization and operation of the Elementary Division. This is a leadership role, responsible for the effective delivery of instruction, academic leadership, ensuring best practices for student learning and faculty performance, and ensuring that the mission, vision and values of CFIS are reflected in the operating philosophy and school culture. The principal will work closely with the Head of School and the Senior Leadership Team to achieve the goals of the school, and execute responsibilities in conformity with the school’s mission, vision, values and strategic plan.
Leading Roles:
- Inspire, lead and manage the Elementary Division, including students, faculty, staff and parents;
- Oversee the organization and operation of the Elementary Division’s meetings, assemblies, communications and special events;
- Oversee the day-to-day organization and operation of the Elementary Division;
- Oversee the allocation of divisional supports (academic and social-emotional) to students;
- In collaboration with the Senior Leadership Team, develop and implement action plans that pertain to the elementary division;
- Ensure that all processes, policies and administrative procedures, including risk, health and safety are followed stringently by division staff and volunteers for all field trips, co-curricular activities, outdoor supervision, events.
Responsibilities:
The Elementary Principal will:
- Contribute to the overall health, success, and sustainability of the School;
- Oversee the timetable, teaching assignments and room allocations;
- Contribute to hiring and training for new faculty;
- Identify key benchmarks and metrics as pertains to areas of responsibility
- Collaborate effectively with other principals, senior leadership and curriculum leaders;
- Contribute to the structure and role design, recruitment, and selection of necessary staff to ensure the success of all areas relating to academics;
- Lead, coach, manage and evaluate the division’s faculty and staff;
- Conduct faculty performance reviews, including ongoing coaching and support to ensure continuous professional growth and excellence in teaching practices;
- Uphold the Alberta Teacher Quality Standards and overarching teacher professional development;
- Address all disciplinary and performance issues proactively, in keeping with the spirit and content of the school’s Mutual Respect policy;
- Oversee student learning and assessments to ensure alignment with Alberta Education expectations and strategic priorities for teaching and learning;
- Review report cards prior to distribution;
- Schedule, lead and participate in regular integrated team meetings;
- Establish, maintain, and nurture effective working relationships with all stakeholders;
- Consistently support and maintain strong relationships with staff, current students and families, and alumni;
- Contribute ideas and rationale for the design of the learning spaces in collaboration with the Head of School;
- Support and mentor teachers to maintain effective classroom practice, implement multiple methods of program delivery and continuous improvement; and
- Undertake other related duties as required.
Skills, Technical and Behavioural Competencies Required:
- Strong planner and organizer with exemplary communication skills
- Excellent written and oral communication skills in English and French
- Exemplary professionalism in dealings with all stakeholders
- Interpersonal skills that foster collegiality and the common goals of the school’s mission, vision, and values
- Strong commitment to continuous learning and growth for self and others
- Extensive knowledge of Alberta Education documentation for various subjects
- Extensive knowledge of and teaching experience in KG-6 classrooms
- Extensive knowledge of best practices in pedagogy from grade 1 to grade 6
- Holds an appetite for change and embraces ambiguity
Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Education
- One or more of the following: course work in leadership, participation in CAIS modules, enrolment or completion of a Master’s degree program
- Permanent Alberta Teaching Certification
- Fluently bilingual (French and English)
Salary:
As per the CFIS teaching salary grid.
