Ashbury College is a leading not-for-profit independent day and boarding school for students in Grades 4 to 12 located in Canada’s capital and the traditional, unceded territory of the Anishinàbe Algonquin Nation. We serve a diverse community of over 60 nationalities from around the National Capital Region, the diplomatic community and international and domestic boarding students.

Ashbury College is currently seeking a Deputy Head of School, Teaching and Learning to lead the development and delivery of innovative teacher practices and student learning. As the Deputy to the Head of School you will support the College’s leadership team, and work closely with school wide academic leadership, in particular with the Heads of Junior and Senior schools. Your success will be built on instilling a passion for pedagogy amongst all Ashbury faculty, promoting a collaborative creative school environment, and advancing Ashbury’s strategic plan. A senior member of the school’s Leadership Team, this position is integral to Ashbury’s continuing evolution of an inclusive school culture and supporting our pluralism objectives.

You’ll be responsible for the development and enhancement of a framework for faculty growth, excellence and evaluation that supports the learning environment for students at the College. The framework includes teaching methodologies, technologies, assessment and evaluation, and professional development and as it relates to the College’s strategic objectives, the Ministry of Education, the International Baccalaureate (IB) and our university partners. Knowledge of current and emerging teaching methodologies and technology-enabled teaching models and tools is essential. Subject matter expertise to teach one or more courses is required.

The Deputy Head embraces the full life of a day and boarding school, is active at key College and community events, supports the Board of Governors on select committees and represents the Head of School when absent.

Your education and qualifications include an advanced degree, a recognized valid teaching licence, and progressive teaching, administrative and mentoring experience in international, independent and/or public-school systems. Your advanced degrees and administration certification may include M.Ed., Principal, IB and CAIS Certification. Training, skills and/or lived experience related to diversity, equity and inclusion are assets, as is fluency in French and/or other languages. Eligibility for Ontario College of Teachers Certification is required. This appointment is effective August 1, 2023; however, the successful incumbent will be expected to begin their orientation to the position and Ashbury for several days during the spring 2023 term.
