POSITION: Intermediate Accountant

REPORTS TO: Controller

POSITION SUMMARY

This position is responsible for assisting the Controller in supporting month end and year end processes and preparing financial reports and working documents for the year end audit.

DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Prepare month-end and resolve any discrepancies
  • Reconcile accounts (bank and general ledger accounts)
  • Prepare monthly analysis of accounts
  • Process accounts payable invoices and ensure vendors are paid on time
  • Compile and submit PST/GST reports and other government filings as needed
  • Maintain accuracy and completion of accounting platforms for management and financial reporting purposes
  • Assist with preparing year-end working papers and spreadsheets
  • Assist with annual audit
  • Assist with financial reports as needed
  • Assist with annual budget
  • Prepare month and year end journal entries
  • Additional projects or related duties as required by the Controller
  • Other duties as assigned

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum of 2 years experience with full cycle accounting
  • 1 year experience with full cycle AP
  • Experience with invoicing/billing platforms
  • Experience with high volumes of transactions
  • Analytical and problem solving skills
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and/or Google
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or other related field
  • CPA designation or actively pursuing designation, an asset
  • Previous experience with audits, financial statements, bank reconciliations, journal entries, account analysis is considered an asset
  • General understanding of accounting software, knowledge of Blackbaud Financial Edge is considered an asset
  • Knowledge of and/or experience with fund accounting an asset
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • High level of critical and logical thinking; analysis; and reasoning
  • Able to work independently and as part of a team
  • Highly organized and able to work under tight deadlines
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Able to work with confidential material with tact and discretion
  • Must be legally able to work in Canada and, if hired, consent to a criminal record check

POSITION SUMMARY

This role provides maintenance support to the organization by keeping the building and grounds clean and tidy. You’re the type of person who is not afraid to get your hands dirty and is often seen as the “fix-it” person amongst your friends. You have a knack for perfection and enjoy creating a neat, tidy and well-maintained experience for our students that makes them say “Wow!

DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES

Building and Grounds Maintenance

  • Clean swimming pool changerooms (daily)
  • Clean and sanitize washrooms and floors
  • Clean swimming pool decks (daily)
  • Empty garbage bins and pick up litter
  • Polish window, acrylic cases, tanks, graphics, displays, and doors
  • Clear snow as needed
  • Maintain grounds – cut grass, rake leaves, maintain flower beds (weeding), water lawns and trim shrubs
  • Clean gym floor (daily)
  • Polish washroom mirrors and replenish paper products and supplies

Other Duties

  • Set up for both large and small events
  • Supports school events as needed
  • Help with minor emergencies (lost children, broken glass, spills)
  • Assist other departments with moving furniture and displays
  • Traffic duty – Assist children and families in crossing roads safely at crosswalks near designated school drop off points
    • Answer routine questions from the public
    • Performing other duties of a similar nature or level

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must be legally eligible to work in Canada (work permit required with application)
  • Strong attention to detail and demonstrated commitment to quality
  • Must be able to do heavy lifting (up to 70lbs) and stair climbing
  • Ability to work in a school environment, with minimal supervision
  • Knowledge, skills, abilities and characteristics needed to do the job effectively
  • High school or equivalent diploma
  • Fluent in oral and written English
  • Valid BC (Class 5) Driver’s License an Asset
  • Clearance for a criminal record check
  • Have a personality that demonstrates good interpersonal skills that interact well with students, staff, parents, and co-workers
  • First Aid Certificate an asset
  • Understanding of building technical needs
  • Physical ability to handle heavy equipment during set up and take down
  • Customer Service and/or Experience in dealing with the public is an asset;
  • WHMIS certification is an asset;
  • Active demonstration of the company’s values and mission.
  • Ability to operate equipment such as blowers, floor scrubber, power washers, and weed trimmers and other electrical tools in a safe and effective manner;
  • Good communication and customer service skills
  • Job requires attention to detail and an awareness of surroundings;
  • Good understanding of cleaning products and chemical handling;
  • Care must be taken to ensure the right product for the job.

Working Conditions

  • Job requires the ability to stand for extended periods of time;

  • Flexibility and availability in schedule are required during the week, including evenings, weekends and holidays
