About This Staff Role

HTS has an exciting opportunity for a Science Lab Technician to join our team.

The Lab Technician is the support in the science lab and will work closely with teachers to develop and improve the labs offered to our students, continually improve the quality, quantity, and variety of experiential learning opportunities appropriate to the relevant curricula in a way that maximizes student-learning experiences. They are responsible for the overall prep, monitoring, clean up for specific lab activities for grades 7 – 12 science courses.  Report to science dept head, work closely with all science teachers and work within an established framework for the delivery of educational services which support the Schools Program.

We are inviting candidates with the following qualifications to apply:

  • Chemical lab technician diploma, a degree in science would be preferable, B.Ed./OCT would be an asset

  • 2-3 years experience in a deadline-oriented lab environment

  • Skilled in the preparation of solutions and safe handling of chemicals & biologicals

  • Knowledge of biological lab protocols

  • Able to operate independently with exceptional problem solving skills

  • WHMIS Certification (or willingness to participate in a WHMIS course) with advanced training in Occupational Health and Safety, ability to achieve other training as required

  • Familiarity with digital data collection probes and analysis software an asset and comfortable with the use of technology in the classroom as a learning tool
