Position Overview:

The Upper School at UCC is inviting applications for a dynamic and adaptable Design Teaching Assistant. The UCC TA program is a wonderful opportunity for new teachers to develop experience in the classroom, be mentored by outstanding seasoned faculty members, and have phenomenal exposure to a top quality educational experience. This role supports the Design department faculty by preparing equipment and supplies, maintaining inventory of equipment and materials, and assisting in the classroom. The successful candidate will also support students by providing supervision, instruction and assistance inside and outside of regular class as needed. A demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with teachers and students is essential, as is a willingness to participate in the full co-curricular program of the school, including coaching.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the use of technology in the classroom, including improving students, faculty and personal proficiency as program changes are implemented;
  • Manage, maintain and service equipment. (Perform repairs or organize service, sign out and track equipment);
  • Monitor Design department inventory of equipment and materials and order, receive and restock as necessary. Provide necessary paperwork to Accounts Payable;
  • Keep work areas clean, neat and organized;
  • Keep abreast of current developments with regards to upgrading tools and equipment;
  • Support the use of technology in the classroom, including improving personal proficiency to do so through professional development, as program changes are implemented;
  • Support planning and implementation of new curriculum through research, space utilization and purchasing;
  • Promote a safe learning and work environment.

Key Experience and Competencies:

  • Related university degree preferred;
  • Bachelor of Education an asset;
  • Experience working with a variety of design lab equipment including 3D printers and laser cutters;
  • Strong technology and research skills;
  • High attention to detail and safety requirements in the lab;
  • Teaching experience would be an asset;
  • Approachable, collaborative with strong interpersonal skills and ability to interact well with students, teachers and other colleagues.
