The Upper School at UCC is inviting applications for a dynamic MYPDesign Teacher. The role of the Design teacher within the Middle Years Programme assumes a knowledge of the philosophy and practices of the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme. The successful candidate should be an adaptable and inspiring educator, with the ability to deliver a coherent, balanced, integrated, inquiry-based programme. The successful candidate will have a diverse range of qualities, competencies and experience with digital and product Design. A demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with teachers and students is essential, as is a willingness to participate in the full co-curricular program of the school, including coaching.
MYP design enables students to develop not only practical skills but also strategies for creative and critical thinking. The aims of MYP design are to encourage and enable students to:
• enjoy the design process, and develop an appreciation of its elegance and power
• develop knowledge, understanding and skills from different disciplines to design and create solutions to problems using the design cycle
• use and apply technology effectively as a means to access, process and communicate information, model and create solutions, and to solve problems. Types of technology include both digital and product design.
Plan, teach and develop curriculum within the standards and practices of the MYP;
Be committed to department collaboration and working effectively within a dynamic team of teachers and Technical Support staff;
Make effective use of resources and ensure improved standards of learning, high performance and achievement for all students;
Be creative and innovative;
Provide professional expertise, high quality teaching and learning within a rapidly evolving area of design technology;

Key Experience, Knowledge and Competencies:
Bachelor of Education;
Demonstrates a passion for design technology and the ability to instill passion in students;
Experience in digital design, product design;
Experience in computer science an asset;
Experience with the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Program an asset;
Ability to recognize individual learning styles and the characteristics of learners;
Displays creativity and innovation both in and out of the classroom;
Demonstrates the ability and desire to coach sports and / or lead co-curricular activities;
Invests in personal development and strives to grow professionally;
Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to develop strong professional relationships with students, colleagues, administration and parents;
Collaborative team member;
Exemplary communication and problem solving skills;
