Substitute Teacher Middle/Senior

Position Group: Middle/Senior School

Reports To: Director of Academics

Status: Occasional

Start date: August 2020

Job Purpose:

We are currently accepting applications from eligible candidates who are available to provide replacement teaching for Middle School and Senior School grade levels, and all subjects on an on-call basis. In the absence of the regular classroom teacher, your role is to help students learn subject matter and/or skills within the scope of pre-planned scheduled lessons and to provide meaningful instruction.

Specific responsibilities include:

As a substitute teacher, you are responsible for:

  • Taking attendance in accordance with school procedures

Carries out the program of study as indicated by the classroom teacher in the lesson plan

Employs instructional methods and materials deemed appropriate for meeting lesson objectives.

  • Provide academic support
  • Student supervision
  • Following school procedures and regulations

Taking appropriate measures when handling student conflict, disruption and/or misbehaviour.

Familiar with the emergency evacuation routes and nearest exit to the classroom(s) assigned.

Performs duties usually required of the absent teacher, such as advisory supervision, outdoor supervision (JS).

Qualifications:

Valid teaching certificate

Teaching experience

Punctuality

Strong instructional and classroom management skills

Effective communication and organizational skills

Personal integrity and trustworthiness

Ability to establish trust and rapport with students

Comfort and competency working with computers and other technologies to support student learning

Availability upon short notice

Experience with online teaching (asset)

Faculty Intern

Department: Academics

Position Group: Faculty

Reports To: Director of Academics

Status: Contract

Start date: August 2020

The Faculty Intern role consists of substitute teaching during the day and supporting a variety of co-curricular activities in the afternoon. This position is a great opportunity to gain experience in and out of the classroom.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Support a variety of co-curricular activities
  • Substitute teach classes that can range from Kindergarten to grade 11 in a variety of subjects
  • Plan activities and organize student events

Qualifications:

  • Education degree
  • Passionate about working with students
  • Bilingualism (French/English) is an asset
