Founded in 1909 by two innovative educators, Miss Edgar’s and Miss Cramp’s School (ECS) attracts and inspires students, teachers, and staff who are visionary and creative thinkers and doers. We are looking for qualified candidates to fill the following position:
LEARNING SPECIALIST / ORTHOPEDAGOGUE
Identifies and assesses difficulties and learning disabilities in the spoken and written language and logical-mathematical reasoning;
Intervenes with students (in groups or individually) to help them read, write and reason;
Assists and advises teachers in their pedagogical interventions with students with learning difficulties and makes recommendations for professional development, where needed;
Collaborates with parents to gather data and makes recommendations for home interventions;
Refers students to other specialists, as required;
Creates, drafts and revises individualized educational plans (IEPs) and Growth Plan (GP);
Keeps detailed records of the progress of students with IEP or Growth Plan (GP);
Organizes/coordinates the accommodations for learning and assessment
Collaborates with the admissions team to meet the needs of student applicants
Analyses current programs and makes recommendations, as required
Keeps abreast of research, changes, and innovation;
Candidates should have a university degree in an appropriate field of specialization, such as a Bachelor of Education in Special Education. A Masters Degree would be an asset. Candidates should have experience working with students at the secondary school level. Bilingualism is an asset.
