UCC is looking for a charismatic, collaborative and organized Debate Coach for the Upper School. This individual will collaborate with both the faculty supervisors and the Senior Debate Heads to develop a cohesive curriculum for Monday and Thursday Debate Meetings. The curriculum should extend from novice to seasoned senior debaters. In addition, the Coach will help students prepare for upcoming tournaments during these meetings. The debate Coach will also attend Debate Tournaments with the boys in a supervisory and coaching role according to a schedule agreed upon by the faculty supervisors.
With the debate student leaders, organize Monday (senior) and Thursday (junior) meetings;
Devise a curriculum to follow throughout the year to help students improve on debating skills and knowledge of local and global issues;
Supervise students on day and overnight Debate Tournaments;
Provide support for the students on Debate Tournaments;
Work collaboratively with the Faculty Supervisors;
May include hosting responsibilities for tournaments at UCC or elsewhere.
Key Education, Knowledge and Competencies:
1-2 years experience in a coaching position is preferred;
Previous Debating experience would be preferable (in High School and/or University);
Completion of an University Degree is preferable;
Demonstrated expertise in debating at a provincial/national level;
Proven ability to work with students with varying degrees of experience and to develop their debating skills;
Commitment to support the character development of club members;
Excellent communication and problem solving skills;
Collaborative, effective team player;
Strong attention to detail, organization and planning;
Provide a caring and supportive environment.
