Position Title: Communications Coordinator

Reports To: Director of Admissions & Marketing

Position Summary/Scope of Service: Plans, implements and coordinates a communication strategy aimed at enhancing the School’s image and reputation at the local, provincial, national and international level. Strong organizational and design skills as well as superior written and interpersonal communication skills are essential to the position. A team player that demonstrates initiative, exercises judgment and discretion in the workplace, and is able to function independently; the Communications Coordinator is capable of balancing multiple priorities within tight timelines.

Qualifications:

Educational:

  • Post-secondary degree or equivalent qualification in an appropriate discipline such as creative communications, advertising and/or graphic design
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in the field

Professional Experience:

  • Proven experience with graphic design and website maintenance. Preference for someone with professional or technical writing experience in marketing/advertising

Professional Knowledge:

  • Computer skills including proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite, particularly InDesign. Strong working knowledge of Photoshop and Illustrator is beneficial as well as Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint and Excel)
  • Proficiency in photography and photo editing software
  • Ability to work independently and cooperatively with fellow staff and a wide range of stakeholders
  • Ability to work as an effective team member with staff and students and external consultants
  • Ability to teach and mentor others
  • Ability to establish and maintain interpersonal skills using diplomacy, patience and courtesy
  • Ability to communicate well, both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to work calmly and effectively under pressure/time constraint in a fast-paced professional environment; proficient time management and demonstrated initiative
  • Ability to handle pressure effectively and meet deadlines
  • Correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation and vocabulary

Authority:

  • Execution of all communication materials and event requirements within the Communications Coordinator portfolio, in conjunction with and with approval from the Director of Admissions & Marketing.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Designs and edits most print and electronic promotional materials including; brochures, ads, articles, advertorials and online ads for both internal and external communications
  • Maintains School’s branding and ensures proper use of the style and graphic style guides.
  • Updates and maintains the School’s public website, including the writing and/or compilation of materials for posting to the School’s newsfeed.
  • Oversees video production and photography.
  • Assists in the writing and production/distribution of press releases, website content, advertisements/advertorials, alumni magazine and the School’s social media accounts (Twitter, Facebook, Flikr, Instagram and LinkedIn)
  • Photographs a variety of School events
  • Coordinates PR activities and acts as liaison between the media and the School
  • Coordinates emergency communications and plays a role in the Crisis Communications team
  • Review and compile analytical data for website and social media
  • Assists in the external communications and marketing for the School
  • Acts as Yearbook Advisor and works closely with Senior School students while coordinating individual SJR Yearbook committees (students/staff advisors) and acts as supplier liaison
  • Assists in coordinating event activities for various constituencies to enhance the School’s profile within the community
  • Assists the Marketing Coordinator with his/her activities as workload dictates
  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned by the Director of Admissions and Marketing
