Our highly trained faculty receive support and training to be leading professionals in their fields and in the IB Curriculum, using cutting-edge classroom technology.


The York School is looking for an experienced teacher to be part of the Middle and Senior School faculty as a Biology and Chemistry Teacher. Our ideal candidate will have a degree in Biology and have Chemistry as a teachable subject, along with training or experience at the Intermediate and Senior level with the Middle Years Programme (MYP) and Diploma Programme (DP), and will be well-versed in project-based and experiential learning.


  • Teach Biology, Chemistry and General Science in the Middle and Senior School
  • Teach within the International Baccalaureate (IB) framework and philosophy
  • Participate in collaborative planning, committees and meetings
  • Participate in co-curricular activities
  • Supervision duties as well as other duties related to the position.
  • Facilitate a programme that values executive functioning skill development and social emotional learning
  • Offer extra-help sessions for students
  • Support and take an active role in the initiatives of the Science Department
  • Participation in field trips and experiential learning (including overnight) opportunities
  • Coaching & participation in the school community
  • Attendance at meetings, parent evenings, and other events as required
  • Other duties as assigned.


  • Must have an Ontario College of Teachers (OCT) Certificate
  • Minimum 3 years of teaching experience
  • Subject specialist qualifications in Biology and Chemistry
  • Bachelor of Science degree
  • Familiarity with Atlas Rubicon preferred
  • Familiarity with experiential learning and progressive pedagogical methods
  • Training and experience teaching the IB (International Baccalaureate) MYP (Middle Years Programme) and/or DP (Diploma Program) considered an asset
  • Strong ability to work as part of a collaborative team
  • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to interact with students, parents and teachers cheerfully, enthusiastically, courteously, patiently and with discretion
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and busy environment
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • A proactive team player who is flexible and self-motivated with a “How can I help?” attitude
  • Proficiency in Google Applications considered an asset
  • Previous Independent School experience considered an asset.
